Master's program GPV with start of studies per fall semester 2022 or later

Here you will find the information about the master's program in Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine at the University of Bern for students starting in the fall semester 2022 or after (new program).

At the Department of Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine (GPV), courses amounting to 30 (major) or 15 (minor) ECTS credits can be taken as part of the master's program. The two options are listed below.

If the master's thesis is written at the GPV department, attendance at the research colloquium of the GPV department during two semesters (without ECTS award) is additionally required.

The new master's program applies to students who begin their studies in Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine as of the fall 2022 semester. If you started studying GPV before fall of 2022, you can finish your studies according to the old program.

Major in health psychology and behavioural medicine (30 ECTS)

Compulsory courses

10 of the total 30 ECTS must be completed with these courses (please note the footnotes):

  • Health Promotion and Prevention (Health Psychology) - HS - 3 ECTS (lecture) 1
  • Stress and Disease Management - FS - 3 ECTS (lecture) 1
  • Research Methods in Health Psychology - FS - 4 ECTS (lecture and exercise) 1

Elective courses

The remaining 20 of the total 30 ECTS can be earned with these courses:

  • Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine in Practice - HS - 3 ECTS (lecture series) 1
  • Psychology of sexual health - HS - 3ECTS 1
  • Methodological seminar: Dataset cleaning and preparation in R - 2 ECTS or 5 ECTS 2
  • Seminars/lectures from the course offerings of the Department of Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine
